According to Project for Public Spaces, “With community-based participation at its center, an effective Placemaking process capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, and it results in the creation of quality public spaces that contribute to people’s health, happiness, and well-being.”
As a council member, I enjoyed developing programs and events that brought the residents together and develop community. I was proud to start the Annual Food Truck Festival, work with the Culture Fest Committee and coordinate the annual Tree Lighting Event. Additionally, I co-sponsored with Councilman Mario Williams the first Pet Day where our four-legged friends were given free vaccinations and access to resources. Councilman Williams and I donated 30 microchips to the community. Before I left office, I reactivated Movies at Milam Park with Cars 2. Families were able to decorate cars and setup their drive-in movie theater.
As Mayor, we will:
- Develop a comprehensive Public Space Plan
- Start with small projects and include the community in the planning
- Utilize Placemaking to grow Clarkston’s economy with small business pop-up markets
- Integrate The Arts and Health into a Public Space Plan
